Oral Pathology

The Department of Oral Pathology was established in the year 2007. Over the years the department has evolved and is currently equipped with a practical hall where we conduct practical sessions for 100 undergraduate students, accommodating 50 students at a time. Department library consists of hundreds of books pertaining to the subject for references. Routine seminars are conducted by students and faculty at a projector enabled seminar hall. We have a separate laboratory to investigate hematology. Our pathology lab consists of a dissection table, tissue processing unit, microtome and staining section. We also have a dental chair unit space where we take routine biopsy and cytology smear collection. To encourage the overall development of students and make learning more fun, we have a well built dental museum, showcasing talents of our students.

VISION

The Department of Oral & maxillofacial Pathology strives to excel  in the fields of patient diagnosis, imparting knowledge &  practical skill to undergraduate students in the fields of dental anatomy, oral pathology and microbiology.

MISSION

  1. We strive to excel in diagnostic services for oral and maxillofacial diseases.
  2. We impart knowledge of dental anatomy and oral histology.
  3. To train undergraduates the art of carving morphology of teeth to mould them into successful practitioners.
  4. We impart knowledge about diseases pertaining to head and neck region for effective clinical intervention and treatment.
  5. We take utmost interest in conducting research work to help contribute our best to health services. 

HOD’s Message

Seeking the blessings of almighty, department of oral pathology strives to be one of the best diagnostic centres for head and neck pathology. We focus on overall development of students, imparting the best hands on skill trainings to become best clinicians in future. We are blessed with skilled faculty members, well equipped department and laboratory equipments. As Sir, William Osler states, “As is your Pathology, so is your practice,” We thus focus on training our undergraduates the clinical implication of the disease pathology learnt in the curriculum.

Objectives

These objectives of the department are as follows:

Objective 1

To impart comprehensive knowledge about Head and Neck area, Dental Anatomy and Histology and diseases of Oral Cavity to Undergraduate Students.

Objective 2

To develop clear vision about the Career, Inter Disciplinary Skills in multiple dimensions and morality of the Students. 

Objective 3

Develop eye-hand coordination for excellent Dental Practice 

Objective 4

To promote and impart oral health and awareness among general population and prevent oral diseases  

Objective 5

Executing innovative teaching methods combining with our rich cultural and traditional values to promote student centered learning 

Objective 6

To provide special attention to students who have difficulty in learning

Course Details

Department of Oral Pathology conducts classes for first year and third year BDS students. Dental anatomy and histology classes are taken for first year BDS students imparting them knowledge on basic dental anatomy, oral biology and oral histology. Through practical sessions of Wax carvings we train them to improve their hand skill & become successful practitioners. Oral Pathology & microbiology classes are taken for third year BDS students. Through the subject we impart the knowledge of pathological lesions of head and neck region routinely encountered in the oral cavity thus making them better clinician.
