CODE OF CONDUCT
The goal of Al- Azhar Dental College is to promote a culture of professionalism and personal responsibility, and it is expected that all students will support and adhere to these policies .All the faculties and students at the college are expected to undertake their responsibilities to maintain honesty, integrity and fairness. This includes being respectful to others, maintaining the confidential information and follow all the applicable rules and regulations of the college.
SCOPE
This code of ethics represents a set of principles of professional conduct, rules and responsibilities by which dental students must aspire to fulfill the duties to their parents, public ,profession , faculties, staffs and to their fellow students.
PURPOSE
This Code of Ethical Conduct serves
1. Responsibility to the patient
2. Responsibility to the public
3. Responsibility to the Profession
4. Responsibility to the fellow students
CHAPTER I: GENERAL PRINCIPLES - CODE OF CONDUCT
The undergraduate dental training program (B.D.S. degree) will be five and a half years duration including one year compulsory rotating internship.

- Be honest and impartial in serving patients, the public, the institution and the profession.
- Strive to increase personal competence and the esteem in which the profession is held.
- Use knowledge and skill to improve the health and well-being of patients and the public.
- Respect the dignity, professional status of, and professional relationships with their fellow students, faculty, staff and other health care providers.
- Adhere to the patient rights, including respect for patient confidentiality
- Attend to clinical work/appointments well prepared, appropriately dressed and with the
- necessary armamentarium
- Adhere to the specific code of conduct described in this chapter.
- Adhere to clinic and laboratory cleanliness protocols
CHAPTER II: CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS
1. DISCIPLINE
The students are assigned with certain rules and regulations by the institution and should strictly adhere to the same.

- Students are refrained from indulging in any activities that can hamper the regulations
- Violating the above shall invite severe punishment upon the student
- The students are not permitted to invite anybody to address them without obtaining prior permission from the institution.
- All Educational tours will be conducted after obtaining written consent from the parents or guardians and will be accompanied by the faculty members shall be accompanied by the faculty members
- Any case of criminal activity will be reported as per the law
2. HUMAN VALUES
- To set high standards of values , attitude , motivation , behavior and also influence ones perception.
- To enable the interpretation of right and wrong and provide the ways to understand humans and organizations.
- To set honesty in all academic activities
- Encourage students to be attentive, fair and cooperative to teachers regarding academic and extracurricular activities
3. DRESS CODE
- Students are instructed to wear a white apron with the emblem of the college to express professionalism
- Students should strictly wear their id card provided from the college
- Students are not allowed to wear jeans inside the campus
- Girls should put up their hairs inside the departments
4. MOBILE PHONE
- Mobile phones, smart watches and other gadgets are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.
- Students are supposed to switch off their mobile phone in the lecture halls , library and clinics
5. ATTENDANCE
- Student should have at 80% attendance in theory and practical separately every year
- If the student fails to attain the above percentage he/she will not be eligible to appear for the exam
- Absence due to health issues must be reported with medical certificate
6. EXAMINATION
- The internal assessment examinations in theory and practical/ clinical will be held thrice in a year
- The student should secure at least 40% of the minimum marks in internal assessment for both theory and practicals separately, the failure of attaining which will affect the eligibility.
7. RAGGING
Action will be taken against students indulging in ragging
- Suspension / expulsion from the institution
- Debarring from appearing for any examination or other evaluation process.
- Collective punishment if larger number of students are involved in the act of ragging
CHAPTER III: CODE OF CONDUCT IN CLINICS
- Students must behave in an honorable and responsible manner and maintain the ethical standards with patients they encounter in clinical practice.
- Treatment according to an approved and accepted plan
- Proper management of records
- Students should not prescribe medicines without supervision of the faculties
- Obtaining informed consent before providing the treatment
- Students should ensure that their instruments are sterilized
- Students should maintain personal hygiene
- Patient should not be neglected in the clinic for any reasons
- Patient records should be kept confidential
- A clinical log book should be maintained
CHAPTER IV: CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STAFF
The code of conduct for faculty include:
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a respectable code of conduct as expected of them by management and community which include reporting to college 5 minutes prior to starting of the working hour.
- Involve in study and research collaborations of the institution for overall development.
- Full fledged participation at professional meetings, seminars, symposiums and conferences organized by various departments, Principal and management.
- Give their best in every aspect of teaching, curriculum and extracurricular activities.
- Co-operate and fulfill the duties entrusted by the university in terms of exam supervision and invigilation.
- Participate in community service, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities including
- Faculty should not indulge in any form of harassment including being partial to students which is against the rules and policies of the institution.
Leaves
1. Staff shall get casual leaves, medical leaves and annual leaves as per Rules of the college.
2. Leave should be prior informed with proper alternative arrangements made for class / lab/ invigilation and consent must be taken from the Principal’s office.
CHAPTER V: CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PRINCIPAL
Responsibilities of Principal
Under the guidance of management, the principal has been entrusted the following duties:
- Overall academic growth
- To maintain the discipline
- Active participation and encouragement in research,teaching and training programmes.
- Planning and implementation of various activities organized by the university
- Overall administration of the institute and hostel.
- Overall supervision of the university examinations
- Maintenance of self -assessment reports of teachers and their service books
- Principal must have a check on the annual report regarding the progress achieved in different developmental and collaborative program organized by various committees.
- Responsible of any new policies or correction of existing policies of the institution.
- Maintain and check the code of conduct periodically
CHAPTER VI: PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
- Abide by the ethical principles and show respect to all within the premises of institution.
- Be humble, honesty and ask for help from colleagues when needed.
- Deliver patient care with utmost care irrespective of social status, caste, creed, or religion of the patient
- To maintain patient details confidentially.
- Follow college rules, policies and ethics in patient care and follow safety and infection protocol guidelines.
- Carry out research work with approval from the ethical committee following institutional policies.
- Attending workshops, seminars and social events representing the institution must be with the prior permission from the institution head.
